Fishing and a Sit On Top Kayak

Fishing on a kayak just seems to make the sport more enjoyable. Kayaks are light weight, easy to manuever and cost considerably less than fishing boats. Kayaks can also get into places where a fishing boat cannot. They can easily glide quietly in and out of tight spaces without disturbing the natural habitat. Kayaks also have the advantage of being able to be launched from almost everywhere. There is no need to find a dock or wait in line at a public or private access facility. They are easy to carry and can be mounted and dismounted very quickly from the top of your vehicle and therefore it is not necessary to purchase an additional towing trailer. Finally fishing with a kayak is great for you, the physical exercise and is great for the enviroment as there is no motors or fuel on many models.

There are two types of kayaks. Those that the paddler sits in and those where the paddler sits on top. There are many reasons why a fisherman would want to choose a sit on top model.
In a sit inside the paddler sits down inside of the kayak with their legs under the deck. In a sit on top kayak the paddler sits on top in molded cockpit with legs and body exposed.

A sit on top kayak has a self-bailing cockpit with scupper drain so if you take on water it drains out of the scupper holes. This is a huge attribute if you are paddling in rough water. Sit on top kayaks are very easy to get in and out of and move around in. They give easy access to gear or tackle. The paddler also sits with legs hanging over the side and in some models even stand up and pole them with a push pole. Also your kayak paddles do not have to be as long as you are on top and not inside the kayak so the paddles do not have as far to reach into the water.

Sit on Top kayaks are also often less expensive than their counterparts as they are made from rugged inexpensive molded plastics. They are also more comfortable as the paddler is less confined on a sit on top versus a sit in kayak.

Sit On Top kayaks some believe are also safer. On the sit on top models the paddler body is on top of the kayak and not inside so if the kayak is tipped over there is no danger of being trapped inside the kayak.

Most fisherman have their favorite gear, including poles, bait, lures and accessories. A nice feature of sit on top kayaks is that almost of the fisherman's tools can be used with a kayak. There are ample storage places and rod holders that can be adapted to your own fishing gear. There are storage places for keys, snacks, and paddle holders. Every thing the fisherman needs is close at hand yet safely stored.
